BLM says de Blasio’s COVID vaccine warrant in New York targets blacks

A leader of the Greater New York Chapter of Black Lives Matter said New York Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio is targeting black people with his tenure requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter certain businesses in the city, and warned that continued diktat could spark an “uprising” similar to George Floyd’s protests last year.

The threat comes from the chapter’s co-founder, Chivona Newsome, who lashed out at city leaders during a protest earlier this week outside a restaurant that allegedly denied service to a group of would-be black customers.

“Seventy-two percent of black people in this city between the ages of 18 and 44 are unvaccinated,” Newsome shouted into a megaphone.

“So what’s going to stop the Gestapo, I mean the NYPD, from rounding up blacks, pulling them off the train, pulling blacks off the bus?” she added.

“We are warning this city. Your tenure will not be another racist practice of social distancing, ”Newsome continued. “Black people are not going to sit idly by, or you will see another uprising. And it is not a threat. It is a promise. Because it’s our job to stand up for freedom, and that’s what we’re here to do. ”

The warrant, announced by de Blasio in early August, requires workers and customers in certain categories of businesses like restaurants, gyms and cinemas to provide proof that they have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in order to enter.

But since the rule came into effect, disputes have been reported at several establishments, which have also been tasked with handling the front lines of its enforcement.

Such a dispute was why BLM Greater NY held a protest on Monday outside Italian restaurant Carmine’s, where protesters demanded justice for black women who were reportedly denied entry.

During his speech, Newsome led activists in the song “Cancel Carmine’s!” “
