Blizzard casually revealed that the third season of Diablo IV will start on January 23rd last week, before telling us that much more information would be shared in a stream on Thursday. It turns out that we didn’t have to wait that long for most of the details.
The developers have given us a trailer and published one comprehensive blog where they announce that Diablo IV Season 3 is quite appropriately called Season of the Construct. I say appropriate because this time we won’t be fighting vampires or corrupt monsters, but machines.
Malphas has obtained an ancient device called The Loom that can create mechanical structures with which the demon clearly has evil intentions under the sands of Kehjistan. Then it’s good that we also get a mechanical companion called the Seneschal who helps us in battles by attacking enemies and healing us. It can even be customized with the 12 Governing and 27 Tuning stones available during the season, making it more powerful and suitable for different playstyles.
These stones are most often found in Vaults, a new type of dungeon where we encounter new types of traps called Hazards. When we enter a Vault, we get a buff called Zoltun’s Warding which is reduced every time we take damage from Hazards. “No problem, my character can take a lot of damage”. Okay, but a special chest awaits at the end of each vault, and the quality of the reward depends on how high Zoltun’s Warding is when we reach it, so you might want to be a little careful after all.
There’s also a new hub area called The Gatehall, an extra stash tab, Helltide which is active almost all the time, a new battle pass and more coming on January 23rd, but some are being saved for later. It includes The Gauntlet, a weekly rotating fixed dungeon where we will compete for the top spot on the leaderboards. All players will get the same structural design and enemy placement, so no one can complain about someone else getting a simpler version. The top 100 players will be showcased (top 10 permanently) in the Hall of the Ancients, while “High-ranking players” also get medals that can be displayed on newly designed profiles. You will find out more about this and everything else in Thursday’s stream.
