But promises to keep the game alive.

Blizzards MOBA Heroes of the Storm recently celebrated seven years, but there was no big party with cake and packages. Instead, Blizzard cuts back on the development team, which from now on only focuses on bug fixing and keeping the game alive. The heroes will still be rotated in with different seasons, but no new content will be developed for the game. On the game website it says the following.
“Moving forward we will support Heroes in a manner similar to our other longstanding games, StarCraft and StarCraft II. In the future, we’ll continue seasonal rolls and hero rotations, and while the in-game shop will remain operational there are no plans for new for-purchase content to be added. Future patches will primarily focus on client sustainability and bug fixing, with balance updates coming as needed.”

The news may not come as a direct surprise as Blizzard has already previously cut into the development team and moved staff to other projects. They have also competed in esports competitions in the game and it is currently unclear how many still work at HotS. But I guess the game is left with a so-called “Skeleton crew” who only patches the most serious bugs.
