Snowfall is expected Wednesday night through Thursday morning; Possibility of frost
Canada Environment has issued winter storm advisories for Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, warning of heavy snow and sleet through Wednesday morning, Thursday night.
Snowfall of 15 to 25 cm is forecast in central and eastern Vancouver, Gulf Islands, Greater Victoria and Malahat. In Greater Victoria, it will rain with snow at 8 am Thursday; Rain is expected throughout the day.
In the early hours of Thursday, motorists faced a difficult driving situation, reducing visibility from slippery roads and blowing snow.
Up to 30 cm of snow will fall on the North Island and 10 cm on the West Island.
The city of Nanimo warned of winter driving conditions after freezing temperatures throughout Wednesday morning, and the Nanimo Ladiesmith School District canceled bus service.
“The groups are pouring water,” the city said in a tweet. “Please drive, walk or roll carefully. Drivers: Reduce speed and give additional space to other vehicles ”.

The provincial government has reminded drivers that winter tire regulations are in effect on designated roads, including Malahat. Business drivers traveling outside of Greater Vancouver and Greater Victoria during the winter must carry chains or other acceptable traction equipment.
He said the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and its maintenance contractors were closely monitoring conditions when temperatures were in the forecast for frost and snow.
Drive BC Winter driving conditions were reported on Wednesday on several routes on the island, including Roads 4, 19, 19A, 28 and 30 and Malahat. Black ice was reported on Highway 14.
