Winter is coming to USA. Upstate New York has been hit by a snowstorm. More than five feet of fresh snow fell in Buffalo.

A blizzard swept across New York State with biting winds and drifting snow. Buffalo was hit especially hard. The New York Times reports it. A state of emergency was even declared for eleven districts and a driving ban was imposed.

Apparently, the storm was triggered by the lake effect, which occurs when cold winds blow across a large expanse of lake with warmer water. The freezing water vapor then leads to frozen precipitation.

School cancellations, highway closures, canceled events

The National Football League (NFL) has been forced to move Sunday’s Bills-Browns game to Detroit, according to the New York Post.

The blizzard is having a major impact, an NFL source told CBS Sports. “There is currently a travel ban. The snow is falling very heavily right now. I don’t know what will happen if everyone doesn’t make it to the airport or we can’t take off.”

Roads and highways were closed across the region on Friday afternoon. School classes and city events have been cancelled.
