Blizzard hits Japan, thousands of homes shut down, dozens dead

TOKYO, KOMPAS.com – Recent heavy snows in northern Japan and elsewhere have killed 13 people.

The heavy snow has also injured more than 80 people and left more than 10,000 homes without electricity, authorities said on Saturday (24/12/2022).

Reported by Reuters, snow storm and high waves in northern Japan and along the Sea of ​​Japan coast could dump up to 60cm (two feet) of snow, the Meteorological Agency warned.

More than 30 people were seriously injured and more than 50 sustained minor injuries on Saturday afternoon, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said.

Rail and air services have been disrupted in northern Japan and parts of central and western Japan have experienced traffic disruptions, according to public broadcaster NHK.
