In Diablo 3, the popular “Darkness in Tristram” event begins on January 1, 2021, where you travel back in time to 1996. Blizzard is giving fans a reason to play Diablo 3 again.
What kind of event is that? Since 2016, Blizzard has offered you the opportunity to take a nostalgic trip back in time with the Diablo series. In the “The Darkness in Tristram” event, you basically travel back to the Diablo 1 game and experience the adventure of yesteryear, including an encounter with the first iconic boss of the day – the Butcher.
You’ll experience the event with the gameplay and graphics from Diablo 3, but a graphics filter is used that makes the game look too big during the event – as if it’s from 1996, the year Diablo 1 was released. You can also listen the music of the classic action RPG, bringing the atmosphere of yesteryear to life.
The event was launched to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Diablo 1, and returns around this time every year.
So while you’re waiting for Diablo Immortal or Diablo 4, the event is a good reason to play Diablo 3 again and get the Diablo roar.

Travel to the ancient Tristram from Diablo 1
This is how you participate: Starting on Friday, January 1, 2021 starting at 1:00 am, a new mission will be available in which you will have to hunt down a group of cultists. These take you to a portal.
This portal will open on January 4 at 1 am If you use it, it will be found in the old Tristram of Diablo 1. From the destroyed city you can go through the cathedral to the dungeon of Hack and Slays.
Now make your way through the dungeon until you face the Lord of Darkness, Devil, yourself.
