During BlizzConline, Blizzard announces the Arcade Collection, a bundle of three of the studio’s oldest games. Bundled are The Lost Vikings, Rock n ‘Roll Racing and Blackthorne, which will be released for Windows, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.
“With games like The Lost Vikings, Rock n ‘Roll Racing and Blackthorne, we’ve grown into games like Warcraft, Diablo and StarCraft, so we thought it would be a fitting tribute to look back on our history through the Blizzard Arcade Collection,” said Blizzard director J. Allen Brack during the opening of BlizzConline, the online variant of the fan party that Blizzard organizes annually.
For all three games, players can choose whether they want to play them in the original format or in the new Definitive Edition. In the latter variant, the progress can be saved more easily and there is an option to reverse the gameplay for 10 seconds.
The Arcade Collection is part of the Celebration Collection, a collection of in-game goodies that Blizzard is selling in honor of the studio’s 30th anniversary. The Celebration Collection costs $ 19.99 and is available immediately through Blizzard’s own Battle.net, Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.
Blizzard released the games from the bundle in the early years of its existence. The studio was founded in 1991, then under the name Silicon & Synapse. The very first game it released was RPM Racing, which is not in the bundle. This was followed by The Lost Vikings in 1992 and Rock n ‘Roll Racing in 1993. Blackthorne would follow in 1994, the same year that Blizzard would break through with Warcraft: Orcs & Humans.
