The PNL leadership meets on Friday to decide to convene the National Council to give the green light to the Congress to change the leadership. The convention is set to take place in the coming weeks.

The strategy was briefly devised by PNL first vice-presidents Iulian Dumitrescu, Lucian Bode and Rareș Bogdan, who would also have the approval of President Iohannis.

Thursday, Florin Cîțu refused to resign from the position of president of PNL.

“It simply came to our notice then. (…) He asked for an explanation, what were the grievances “, declared on Friday the general secretary of PNL, Dan Vâlceanu, who specified that he did not receive any official request for the convocation of the National Bureau.

Iulian Dumitrescu, Lucian Bode and Rareș Bogdan will request, on Friday in the meeting of the National Political Bureau of PNL, the convocation of the National Council for Sunday, April 3. The National Council is the forum that can trigger an extraordinary PNL congress, according to the party’s Statute.

PNL leaders would like to support Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca in tandem with Lucian Bode as secretary general of the PNL leadership.

Several leaders of PNL branches want Florin Cîțu to land from the party leadership. The revolt broke out just as he was leaving the country on a visit to the United States.

The revolt would have started from the PNL organizations from the south of the country and would have been led by the first vice-president Iulian Dumitrescu. He allegedly came up with the idea of a letter signed by all the leaders of the organizations requesting the resignation of Florin Cîțu from the party leadership. Along with Iulian Dumitrescu are some of the first vice-presidents Lucian Bode and Rareș Bogdan, but also most of the leaders of organizations.

According to the quoted sources, Iulian Dumitrescu would have received the approval of the president Klaus Iohannis to start the landing of Florin Cîțu from the PNL leadership. The approach takes place in the context in which within the PNL there are tensions and dissatisfaction related to the way Cîțu manages the internal kitchen of the party, but also to its public opposition to the governing partners, in this case PSD.
