LECCE – With a goal by Blin in the 95th minute, Lecce saved himself from a defeat in which he was running into exclusively for his own demerits, starting from an attitude not sufficiently fueled by the competitive nastiness that is needed when you want to bring home at all costs victory.
And the match against Cosenza, with all due respect for the Calabrians, was one that shouldn’t have been wrong: for the moment in which it arrived, after two draws in a row, for the contribution it offered, that of appearing in the head to the classifca with a different momentum while awaiting the commitments of Pisa, in Ascoli, and of Cremonese, at home with Pordenone.
First half
Yet the conditions for a happy ending seemed to be there: Lecce, in fact, immediately took the lead with a great goal from Coda who, however, in the 16 ‘had a penalty kick rejected by the goalkeeper Matosevic, granted for a foul. from the hand of Hristov and kicked not very well. Failed to double the Salento have made a lot of possession without acceleration, making one perceive the will to manage the race, perhaps in the presumption of the limits, however evident, of the opponents.
Then on the first real mistake, Lecce paid the duty: in the 44th minute from a wrong restart came the cross on which Larrivey, left too alone by Simic, first found an excellent rejected by Plizzari and then the winning counter.
Second half
As soon as 52 ‘hit Cosenza, returning from the locker rooms with Palmiero and Vallocchia for Voca and Carraro, completed the comeback: Simic, on a throw from Palmiero, was put in behind by an insertion of Millico who, once at the bottom of the ‘area, he invents a shot underneath, nullifying the opposition of Plizzari. The dynamics of the action are very reminiscent of what we saw against Perugia and Brescia, with Olivieri’s goals and the penalty for a foul on Pajac: reading error in the center of the defense.
Cornered by the result, Baroni sent Rodriguez on the field in the 56th minute for Listkowski, who performed a subdued performance like his teammates on the left, Gallo and Gargiulo. The Spaniard soon called into question the extreme opponent with a volley on the developments of a free kick by Majer prolonged by Lucioni. Mister Bisoli replaces an exhausted Larrivey with Laura who immediately goes very close to scoring with a cross shot that crosses the entire face of the goal. Meanwhile, Blin also entered for Majer and Ragusa for Gargiulo.
As expected, Cosenza then intensified the use of interruptions and delays in the resumption of the game. With Gerbo for Millico Bisoli tries to raise the embankment in midfield. Rodriguez wastes a good opportunity in the 75th minute with a first intention shot from the edge of the penalty area: he would have had time to control, advance and kick from a better position. At 80 minutes, Strefezza, on a good cross from Gallo, rushes to the far post, opts for the stop instead of direct execution, but gets it wrong. With the alternation between Florenzi and Sy, the Calabrian coach runs out of changes, while Baroni’s latest cards are Calabresi for Gendrey and Asencio for Strefezza with a view to a 4-2-4 module. At minute 84 ‘Lucioni remedies the only yellow card for Lecce against the seven collected by the Silani. This too is a thermometer to be taken into due account.
The goal of the Giallorossi’s equalizer came with Blin in the fifth of the more than seven minutes allowed by the referee, Marinelli, when all the schemes were now blown: free kick from Ragusa, Coda bank towards the opposite post and head support of the Frenchman, able to find the right time.
In the end, as it turned out, the final result of 2 to 2 is enough to say “no danger” but not to spare an examination of conscience. Pending the completion of the day, the ranking says that the Salento are with Pisa in first place at an altitude of 55, and that Cremonese, who has 53 points, can relaunch his actions. Meanwhile, Monza, clearly winning against Alessadria, reached 54 points, overtaking Lecce in the box of goals scored.
Baroni: “We played academic football”
At the end of the match, the coach of the Giallorossi made self-criticism on the interpretation of the match by his boys: “We started well, then we did academic football, ball round and little penetration on the outside, everyone wanted to go to the streets central and therefore we conceded goals on our exit in the first half and then on a verticalization. This is reality. At half-time I told the team that we were playing in an unproductive way, made up only of dribbling: it is clear that either you score or you take it, that’s how it happened. In the end, we needed the episode: the team looked for him with determination, almost never granting restarts. Okay, let’s take this draw as a lesson ”.
The Lecce supporters present in about 500 units did not fail to make their disappointment with the team’s conduct felt at the end of the match: “The fan always wants to win, it’s normal – said Baroni -. This thing has to give us a boost. At the end of the game I spoke to the team: this game must be of use to us. We had to play another type of game, to be effective in attack, not to dominate in possession and we went down on a terrain that is not ours because my team has dynamic players on the outside but we wanted to do everything centrally. Actually, I have to tell the truth: luckily we managed their transitions well because usually these are games that usually end with another score ”.
