The Secretary of State of EU, Antony Blinkensaid this Friday that the dollarization plan that the Government of Javier Miley “depends on Argentina«, while expressing his support for the talks between the South American country and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
«That (dollarization) depends on Argentina. We hope to hear some plan, but it must be from Argentina. “We support the agreement between Argentina and the Fund, since it can be a very important instrument for the stabilization of the Argentine economy.”indicated the head of US diplomacy in a press conference in Buenos Aires, shared with his Argentine counterpart, Diana Mondino.
Milei, who met with Blinken at the Casa Rosada (headquarters of the Executive), has said in the last few hours, after meeting this Thursday with the first deputy managing director of the IMF, Gita Gopinaththat the organization is “willing to accompany” Argentina in the possibility of moving to another type of program with the Fund, on whose board the United States has a strong weight.
The president explained that a new program could be in line with his idea of moving towards a system of currency competition, maintaining the Argentine peso, as a preliminary step to dollarization of the economy.
Blinken maintained that the work the Argentine government is doing to stabilize the economy, which includes a severe fiscal adjustment, “is absolutely essential” and said that the United States wants to do what it can to make the plan “successful.”

The Peronist Government Alberto Fernandez (2019-2023) signed an agreement with the IMF in March 2022 to refinance the debt contracted in 2018 during the mandate of the center-right Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) for about $45 billion.
