Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has assured the US Secretary of State that he supports the US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of Hamas hostages, Anthony Blinken announced after their nearly three-hour meeting.
The head of American diplomacy emphasized to reporters that it is the obligation of Hamas to also accept the compromise proposal. Anthony Blinken said he would next visit Egypt and Qatar, countries that have also taken on a mediating role in the indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
“The prime minister reiterated Israel’s commitment to the current American proposal to release our hostages, which takes into account Israel’s security needs,” said a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office.
The US Secretary of State also did not fail to express his concern about the outbreak of polio in the Gaza Strip, adding that Washington is working with the Israeli government on a vaccination plan.
