Blinken: If Russia behaves aggressively towards Ukraine, it will have consequences

The conflict in eastern Ukraine, home to a predominantly Russian-speaking population, has claimed more than 13,000 lives.

If Russia behaves recklessly or aggressively towards Ukraine, it will have consequences. This was said on Sunday by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who added that Russia’s provocative actions on the border with Ukraine worried him. The AFP agency informed about it.

“I have to tell you that I have a real concern about Russian actions on the border with Ukraine,” Blinken said in an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press. According to him, the United States is therefore in very close contact and coordination with its European allies and partners.

“We all share these concerns. President Joe Biden has taken a clear position on this. If Russia acts recklessly or aggressively, it will have consequences, “Blinken added.

Russia has recently moved its troops to the borders with Ukraine as well as to Crimea. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Thursday that Russia now has the most troops on the border with Ukraine since 2014. Turkey’s foreign ministry said on Friday that the United States would send two warships to the Black Sea next week.

Intense fighting subsided

The armed conflict in eastern Ukraine erupted in 2014, when Russia annexed the Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula and parts of eastern Ukrainian Donbas were ruled by pro-Russian separatists. Kiev and Western nations have accused Moscow of providing armed support to Donbass separatists, which Russia denies.

According to AFP, the conflict in eastern Ukraine, home to a predominantly Russian-speaking population, has claimed more than 13,000 lives and is a problem in Moscow’s relations with the West. Although intense fighting in eastern Ukraine has subsided in recent years, a diplomatic solution to the position of areas in eastern Ukraine is still in sight.

The United Nations continues to consider the Crimean peninsula to be part of Ukraine, and Kiev has pledged to get it back one day.
