Throughout the Covidian crisis, which does not end, the daily news of all the large television networks in Germany dedicates a quarter of an hour to events related to Covid-19 to then give and comment on national, European and international news. 15 to 20 minutes for the virus, 40 minutes for the other. During my stay in France, I found a television situation similar to that of our Mexico: Covid 19, the figures of the day, its manifestations and consequences monopolize most of the time, so that we are anguished, saturated and bored; worse a little bit, that confirms us, both in Mexico and in France, in our irremediable navelism. The outside world does not exist, the world does not exist. In that sense, our president represents us very well.
The few international information that reached us in recent months had to do with the denialism of Trump and Bolsonaro and his refusal to wear the mask. Who does not read or watch the major international media, newspapers and television channels, cannot know that during the pandemic the world has moved and is moving a lot. Do not know that the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has occupied a good part of Libya, without releasing the districts controlled by its soldiers in Syria; who has sent 2,000 Syrian mercenaries to support the army of Azerbaijan in his victorious war against Armenia; Nor does he know that Turkey and Israel have provided the Azeri forces with drones (and the servers of that technology) that gave them absolute control of the sky and the earth.
During the pandemic, China has moved with cunning and discreet intelligence, confirming its status as a great power, while the I, under the conduct of Donald Trump, suffered as few from Covid. China has 30% of the world’s industrial production and a monopoly on essential pharmaceuticals. We also do not find out what the Russian president is doing and his complicated game against the Turkish friend / enemy. Iran has moved some pieces well against Saudi Arabia, which is not far from allying itself with Israel against Tehran. Of all that, they have not spoken to us, or very little.
Is it that we are not interested in following world affairs or that we think that nothing that happens beyond our borders can affect us? However, the evolution of wages in Chinese factories has immediate and very serious consequences on our maquiladoras; the economic crisis in Europe And in the United States, we don’t really care? And the decisive question of the international financing of the crisis, the tension that goes on for a long time between China and the US (which can benefit us), all of this should appear every day on our television, radio and press.
What is our vision of the world and what is the vision of the world that our leaders and those who aspire to replace them have? Do they have any or do they think they don’t need it because we are in the new TLC And, forgiving the word, “in the backyard of Washington”? Years ago, when Mexico entered the club OECDHe had the ambition to occupy a good place on the international board, not to be a pawn of second importance. Our geographical position between the two oceans and the two Americas, the North and the South, our demographic weight, our natural possibilities (without believing we are “the horn of plenty”), everything forces us to stop being blind, to open our eyes . Geopolitics is exciting and the young Mexican nation –200 years is nothing– strong of the youth of its population, should take advantage of the opportunities that its knowledge gives.
