Christophe Ramont, ex-participant of Blind Getrouwd, has fallen victim to cyber criminals. Ramont shares his story to warn others: “I always tell my parents not to fall for it and then it’s up to me.”
Ramont emphasizes that it can happen to anyone: “I recently changed jobs and that’s why I also got a new smartphone,” he tells us. “Then you also have to reactivate all your banking apps and your itsme. And I couldn’t do the latter because the couch tray didn’t work.”
I didn’t think about it, my coffee hadn’t even run yet

That’s why he leaves it as it is, but yesterday morning he wakes up and sees that he has received a text message, not coincidentally about itsme. It tells him that he needs to perform an update to be able to use the app and he clicks on the link. “I didn’t think about it and it seemed logical because I had problems activating my itsme. And that’s why I just clicked. It’s no excuse, but I had only just woken up and the coffee hadn’t run yet.”
Lost money
Ramont goes through the entire procedure and this time everything seems to go smoothly: “So I finally seemed able to activate my itsme. A little later I was on the train to work and I suddenly thought that it was strange that I received a text message and had to update an app that is already on my new smartphone.”
That’s why he has the reflex to look at his bank account and money appears to have disappeared: “Luckily it was only 200 euros. But it could have been a lot worse if there had been more money in that account. I immediately blocked my card and contacted my bank. So now all my banking apps have been blocked again and my Itsme (laughs).”
Revictimized faster
Although he wanted to file a fraud file, it made little sense, as it turned out: “I was told that I had passed everything on to those criminals myself. So you are guilty yourself. I was disappointed for 24 hours and felt stupid, but then I didn’t think about it anymore.”
Criminals keep lists of victims
“You know that exists, you should be more attentive to it. But apparently not enough,” says Christophe. In any case, he will be even more attentive now, not least because criminals also make lists of phishing victims and sell them on to others. Precisely because there is a greater chance that they can be scammed again.
