Blessed Dzianowicz discovering Onet at the Gdynia festival! “For the moving image of fear and love”

The winner among the creators and creators of all the films presented at the festival was selected by a jury chaired by Dominika Olszyna, head of Onet’s Culture and Lifestyle departments. It included journalists Onet Kultura – Dominik Jedliński and Dawid Dudko.

“For the story of a family that escapes superficial schemes and the use of a documentary experience to create a moving image of fear, love and merciless suffering” – is the justification of the award to Beata Dzianowicz, awarded during the Young Gala of the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

The Pateroks are a loving and multigenerational family. Their lives are peaceful and fun. Suddenly a crack appears in this harmonious reality: grandfather Gerard begins to behave strangely, breaking conventions and social norms. It turns out these are the first symptoms of Alzheimer’s. How do the heroes of the film deal with this diagnosis? The worsening of Gerard’s disease strains family relationships and brings out hidden tensions, secrets and grievances.

The cast of “Strzępów” consists of: Michał Żurawski, Grzegorz Przybył, Agnieszka Radzikowska, Dariusz Chojnacki, Pola Król, Robert Talarczyk, Alina Chechelska, Roman Michalski and Bogumiła Murzyńska. Piotr Pawlus is responsible for the photos and the scenography Agata Adamus and Agnieszka Sośnia, for the costumes by Dorota Roqueplo, and for the music by Mikołaj Piotr Górecki.

– When someone stops distinguishing pen from fork or right from wrong, it becomes really difficult. What is worth betting on then? Is there any good selfishness? Is there any good selfishness worth fighting for, to keep a piece of the world for yourself, to have where to find strength, time …? I don’t know the answers to these questions, so I put them to my heroes, and they face them somehow, sometimes stupidly and sometimes impressive – says Beata Dzianowicz about “Strzępy”.

Beata Dzianowicz is a director and screenwriter, until now mainly a creator of documents. Her “Kites” won, among others, Grand Prix at the Locarno Film Festival. She is a lecturer at the K. Kieślowski Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia in Katowice, of which she is a graduate. She is the author of the comedies “Wish Concert” and “Parzyst”, awarded at the Talia 99 comedy writing competition.

After documentary films such as “Cell with a View”, “Dreams and Death”, “The Art of Hope” and “Lesson of Hope”, in 2018 he made his debut in the feature film “Odnajda Ciebie”. “Strzępy”, awarded by Onet, is her second feature film.

The Onet Award – Discovery of the Polish Feature Film Festival – is awarded in Gdynia to the most interesting authors. So far they have received it, among others: Olga Chajdas – director and co-screenwriter of the film “Nina”, indicated among the most important productions of 2018 by Onet Kultura; Bartosz Bielenia – in the lead role in Jan Komasa’s Oscar-nominated film “God’s Body”, Magdalene Koleśnikplaying the lead role in Magnus von Horn’s “Sweat”, which entered the main selection of Cannes 2020, or last year the director “Other people” by Dorota Masłowska Aleksandra Terpinska.

47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia runs from 12 to 17 September 2022. On the last day, during the final gala at the Musical Theater, we will find out who will win the most important prize of the festival: the Golden Lions. 20 productions are competing for this award this year.
