After no more than a quarter of an hour played in the competition premiere against Utsiktens BK, IFK Gothenburg goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg was hit on the foot and was lying on Bravida Arena’s artificial grass. Medical attention was called, but the 24-year-old continued to play.
But with a few minutes to the half-time break, Dahlberg received another blow to the foot in connection with Utsikten’s 1-1 tie – and was forced to break the match.
After the match, Dahlberg was depressed when he nevertheless left a positive status message:
– It is better now.
What will happen now?
– We’ll probably have to take that with the physiotherapist.
On Sunday, a meeting with Gais awaits in the second round of the Swedish Cup. Then Pontus Dahlberg does not yet know if he will be able to play.
– It is probably too early to deport. We’ll see how the next few days play out, says the goalkeeper.
IFK Gothenburg’s physiotherapist Fredrik Larsson believes that it is probably not a serious injury, but that Dahlberg will be examined more closely.
– He twisted his foot and felt at their goal that he was not 100 and was afraid of not being able to contribute 100. Then we made the decision to pick him and put in an Icelander (Adam Ingi Benediktsson) instead. We are doing as usual and will see tomorrow if we need the support of an MRI examination (magnetic x-ray). Then we will get back to you with more information, but it doesn’t look very dramatic at the moment, says Larsson.
Why didn’t you pick him out after the first hit?
– Then he still felt that he was stable and could trust his foot. He wanted to try it and then there were no signs that there would be any fracture or the like. Then it is more about pain threshold.
Regarding Pontus Dahlberg’s participation against Gais, Fredrik Larsson is hopeful.
– We are not throwing in the towel for that match. But it’s always good to be a little restrained when it comes to the first few days. Tomorrow we will see if we know more about this.
What could it be about if it is a serious injury?
– As it stands now, we are not throwing in the towel for the Gais match. Then we’ll see, concludes the physiotherapist.
