Blatný stopped the development of the Czech vaccine. We learned it from the media, says the doctor

Vaccine development in the Czech Republic stopped after the first phase, ie after laboratory development. The decision was made by the new Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES). “We only found out about it yesterday and through the media. I must admit that the style of the announcement was really unexpected,” said Petráš.

The argument of the Ministry of Health is that everywhere else in the world the development of the vaccine is already in the third phase, so maintaining the development in the first phase, which takes place in the Czech Republic, is a waste of funds. “The question is how costly the vaccine would be, because the pandemic brought a lot of financial demands on other activities. I don’t think it would be completely costly,” Petráš explains.

Strict safety rules had to be followed when developing the vaccine. The development itself then took place in a specialized laboratory. However, Czech researchers already had previous experience with the Ebola virus, for example, so working with a dangerous virus was nothing new for them.

The Czechia has already promised 3 million doses of vaccine abroad. However, according to Petráš, it is not yet clear that the vaccine will really work and be safe. “Vaccination can completely change the whole coronavirus situation,” the doctor added.
