Shocking anti-Israel propaganda – in public children’s programs!
► In the children’s lexicon “nine and a half”, WDR explains the world to our children. But instead of stating the facts, the broadcaster’s entry on the Middle East conflict stirs up anti-Israel sentiment and trivializes the terror of the Islamist Hamas.
For the historian and media observer Jörg Gehrke, it is “unbelievable” what the station presents as an educational offer for children. At X (formerly Twitter) he analyzed the post and accused WDR of “a completely one-sided narrative with highly questionable formulations”!
Israel Allegedly “Founded on Palestinian Territory”
WDR writes that Israel was “founded on Palestinian territory” – historically incorrect.
► The Jewish state was founded in part of a former British mandate. Jews and Arabs lived there long before Israel was founded. The origin of Judaism lies in the region. At no time before the founding of Israel was this area “Palestinian”; there has never been an Arab-Palestinian state.
Propaganda card is intended to prove anti-Israel slurs
Particularly blatant: WDR even put out a propaganda card (“Disappearing Palestinian”) to prove how Israel supposedly expanded and took land away from the Arabs.
The map has little to do with reality, but is spread by Hamas supporters to justify attacks on Israeli civilians. Turkey’s ruler Recep Tayyip Erdogan (69) and the anti-Semitic “Fridays for Future” organization are using the card to incite Israel.
This is intended to prove that Israel is stealing their land from the Palestinians. The map suggests that a state of “Palestine” supposedly existed until 1946. From 1947 onwards, according to the map, “Palestinian territory” continues to shrink, while “Jewish territory” continues to expand.
▶︎ BUT: In 1946, the green area was not “Palestinian”, but rather a British mandate, where hundreds of thousands of Jews also lived. The Arabs rejected the UN plan in 1947 and attacked Israel with several states in 1948. And in today’s Jewish state of Israel, 20 percent of the population are Arabs, while no Jews can live in Arab-controlled areas – it is too dangerous.
The WDR is presenting this propaganda card to the children!
When asked about a two-state solution, the broadcaster doubled down, claiming that Israel would prevent this proposal “again and again with armed force.” Israel repeatedly offered the Palestinians a two-state solution, which was repeatedly rejected and met with waves of terror.
The UN plan of 1947 (the first two-state solution) to divide the area was already rejected by Palestinians and Arabs. When Israel was founded in 1948, the surrounding Arab states declared a bloody war against the Jewish state.
Terror against Israel is just “counter-violence”
They don’t want to know anything about that at WDR. Instead, it is claimed that the Palestinian attacks on Israel are just “counter-violence” due to Israel’s alleged violence against the Palestinians.
That too: an absurd distortion of reality that legitimizes terrorism and demonizes Israel. Before the founding of Israel was even in sight, Palestinians and Arabs were already exercising the worst violence against Jews and carrying out bloody pogroms against civilians. Under the leadership of Mohammed Amin al-Husseini, they made a pact with Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler – the Palestinian leader wanted to extend the Holocaust to the Middle East.
Hamas massacre is trivialized
And the Hamas massacre on October 7th is also played down by WDR. The station writes that Hamas attacked Israel with “ground troops” and hundreds of Israelis were killed and kidnapped.
The fact is: it was not “ground troops” but Islamist Hamas terrorists who attacked Israel on October 7th. Their goal: kill as many Jews as possible. They murdered more than 1,200 defenseless civilians, raped Israeli women and kidnapped over 200 people – including children and old people.
After public criticism from historian Gehrke, WDR wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “We take the criticism of the article very seriously. We are currently reviewing and revising the article.”
In a statement, the WDR explained to the “NRZ”: “The aim of the lexicon is to explain often complex issues in a child-friendly way and is a supplement to the program. In the case of the text mentioned, however, this was not entirely successful. As a result, the content is not presented adequately and in parts is not accurate,” the broadcaster admits. “The editorial processes for creating the articles are currently being examined internally. The article on the ‘Middle East conflict’ is currently being revised and will be renewed in collaboration with experts.”
FDP: “Incredible”
The FDP Bundestag member Frank Müller-Rosentritt, whose colleague is historian Gehrke, told BILD: “It is well known that public broadcasters often have a problem with the facts regarding Israel, but even after October 7th The fact that the German media distorts the facts in this way is simply unbelievable.”
As Müller-Rosentritt explains further, it is “scandalous” to “present such untruths in an educational program for children.” WDR must ensure that “anti-Israel propaganda is never published on its channels again.”
