While Emmanuel Macron was re-elected President of the Republic this Sunday evening with 57.6 to 58.5% of the vote, the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer was the guest of Europe 1 and CNews. He reacted to the victory of the president-candidate and considered that the gap between the two candidates is “significant for the strength of the mandate”.
Emmanuel Macron was re-elected Sunday as President of the Republic with 57.6 to 58.5% of the vote against Marine Le Pen (41.5-42.4%) according to initial estimates, a clear victory tempered by abstention high, (28%). Guest of Europe 1 and CNews on Sunday, the Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, reacted to this victory.
“Wondering about the abstainers”
“We are happy that the score is at the rendezvous of hope. This evening, we must salute democracy and all the voters, those who voted for Emmanuel Macron, but also all the others. on the abstainers and tell them that the President of the Republic will also be their president”, he asked. “The fact that there is a big gap [de voix] is important for the strength of the mandate that will be exercised.
Also invited this Sunday evening, the mayor of Béziers Robert Ménard called to hear the French people who voted for Marine Le Pen today. “There are things to change and modify and I hope you will do it,” he told the Minister of Education. “I hope so much that the little people are listened to and taken care of.”
Given a long time favorite to his own succession, Emmanuel Macron becomes at only 44 years old the first outgoing president reappointed outside cohabitation, since the adoption of direct universal suffrage in 1962.
