Blankenberg. The music film theater in Blankenberg is on winter break. The plan is to continue with the concept that worked so well in 2023 in February.
It is not yet clear which band will start the new season this year. In the coming weeks, the Blankenberg Music-Film-Theater Association will decide what to do next this year. What is certain so far is that the first concert in 2024 will take place towards the end of February.
Fewer events, more diversity: in 2023, the volunteer association that runs the Blankenberg cinema attracted more visitors. “We want to maintain this concept,” explains Torsten Murr. Because it is precisely this colorful diversity that was well received by the audience.
Colorful mix for music fans
“We actually had everything in terms of style: from blues rock to punk,” says Torsten Murr. A special highlight right at the beginning of 2023 was the final concert by the Berlin band “King Kong Calls”, which has been closely linked to the Blankenberg cinema since 2016.
In addition, groups from the surrounding area were represented in Blankenberg last year. For example MacGeifer from Neustadt/Orla, formerly known as Generator, and Cornflower Blue. The band has existed since 2014 and the members come from the Saale-Orla district.
At the end of September 2023 there was a second highlight: “Die Ossis” played in Blankenberg. The first concert took place in the cinema 20 years ago after it was made available to play by a few volunteer music lovers and culture enthusiasts from Blankenberg and the surrounding area after years of being empty. The first band to play in the cinema back then was “Bluestift” from Berlin. Carsten Große, guitarist, was one of the musicians from “Bluestift” at the time – and was back on stage in Blankenberg 20 years later as a member of “Die Ossis”.
Cosiness and exuberance
The audience area of the Blankenberg Music Cinema is characterized by the comfortable sofas that have been donated over the years to the association that runs the cultural stage. The guests take a seat on it before the concerts and enjoy the chat and the drinks. The cozy calm before the storm until the bands of the evening show their skills. Because then it’s time to dance, party and more.
Another example of the cinema’s local connection was the performance of the band “Herrmann’s Crossroads”. The trio from Mielesdorf near Tanna is dedicated to the classic, predominantly harder rock of the late 1960s and 1970s.
