The women’s Tour de France cycling race continued on Thursday with the 152.5 kilometer distance between Bastogne and Amnéville. During the stage, five smaller classification climbs and 1,820 meters of climbing awaited the bikes. Based on preliminary expectations, this stage seemed to be the most suitable stage to achieve a good result for the world champion U23 Vas, who finished tenth in the opening stage, wrote MTI.
Six kilometers before the end, there was a big drop in a corner, which split the field. Vas, who was in a good position, responded perfectly to every start, and was the fastest of the four who followed to the finish, so after the Giro d’Italia he already has a stage victory from the Tour de France. Behind Vas, the Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-Sram) was second, and the German Liane Lippert (Movistar) was third. American Faulkner (EF-Oatly-Cannondale) finished fourth this time.
Vas Blanka’s teammate, Demi Vollering, who had led the race so far, was also involved in the big fall, because of this she only finished with a deficit of 1 minute and 47 seconds, thus losing the yellow sweater. Niewiadoma took over the leadership of the complex.
The one-week, eight-stage race continues on Friday with the 159.2 kilometer stage between Remiremont and Morteau and finishes on Sunday on the legendary Alpe d’Huez. Blanka Vas is in 44th place in the overall standings, 8:44 minutes behind Niewiadoma in the new yellow jersey.
