Born in the 1980s, Huang Hao, a trainee lawyer in Chengdu, Sichuan, and the wife of an Internet “fat tiger” responded to the “blank paper demonstration” in Chengdu on the evening of November 27. They were later taken away from their residence for “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” The family members learned that “Fat Hu” was being held in the Shuangliu Detention Center in Chengdu, while her husband’s whereabouts were unknown.
At least a dozen people, most in their 20s and recently starting their careers, have been detained, a person familiar with the matter confirmed to Bloomberg. Some graduated from top educational institutions, including Tsinghua University, Xi Jinping’s alma mater. Some work in party media, one works in a multinational accounting firm, and others are writers, photographers and artists.
Some friends of the detainees said, “I’m afraid that if the superiors want to find out the truth, more people may be arrested at the enforcement level.”
