The piece has already been performed nearly two hundred times. Still, there are Barcelona men and women who have not seen it yet, but who have heard about it and do not want to miss it. That is why it has become part of the new season of Barcelona Cultural Districtwhich brings quality stage productions, free of charge, to the stages of civic centers and other cultural facilities in the city.
As the only interpreter of the function, the also playwright Alejandra Jimenez Gascon. Directed by Montse Bonetplays a dozen characters in a space of only nine square meters, to tell us two stories that take place at different times.
One is the story of Carmen, an inmate in a Francoist women’s prison who must give birth in the same penitentiary in which she has been confined. And the other is that of Blanca, a young actress who lives in our times and who earns her living interpreting her comic monologues on the stages that she has within her reach, mainly gray bars where some spectators listen to her and others , no.
What do these two stories have to do with each other? You will know if you come to see sleepless white, but we already anticipate that the show breathes authenticity. Not only because the leading actress herself is also a professional in the stand-up comedy and was one of the founders of the company Impro Barcelona, but because the story of the character of Carmen that is told on stage is also that of many women who lived through the repression that came after the Civil War.
