SAN DIEGO (AP) – Blake Snell has made another listing for a gem.
This did not end so well for the left-handers of the Padres, also because San Diego’s thugs fell silent again.
The Los Angeles Angels interrupted Snell’s no-hit attempt with two outs in the seventh inning and defeated the Padres 4-0 on Tuesday night.
Snell took a perfect game in the seventh game before going two bats and then allowing Jo Adell’s two-time single on his 96th field of play. Adell finished with three RBIs.
A week ago, Snell threw seven no-hit innings in Arizona before coming out with a pitch count of 107. The Padres won 3-0 in a combined three-hitter.
His 13 2/3 consecutive hitless innings set a franchise record.
Snell has kept hitters at a batting average of 0.071 in his last four starts. According to STATS, this is the lowest number in four starts in a single season since Johnny Vander Meer kept his opponents at an average of 0.063 over a period that included his record of consecutive no-hitters in 1938.
The Padres are 1-3 at these starts as they try to hold onto second place in the NL Wildcard race.
“Right now he’s doing his job and more. As a group we have to take it up, ”said manager Jayce Tingler. “If he throws the ball like that, the bottom line has to be victories.”
The Padres had only four hits.
Snell (7-6) tried for the majors’ ninth no-hitter that year, breaking the record of eight in 1884.
Joe Musgrove started the no-hit parade that year, putting up the first no-no in San Diego history on his second start for his home team.
Snell pulled the first 18 Angels Batters back on 66 pitches before leading David Fletcher who led the seventh. Luis Rengifo appeared to hit a bunt for an infield single, but the Padres appealed and the video playback showed Snell tagging Rengifo before he got to the pocket. The call was canceled.
Snell knocked out Phil Gosselin before going to Jack Mayfield. Adell hit a liner to the left to end Snell’s bid for the no and break a goalless tie.
“I felt good, was really efficient,” said Snell. “In the last inning in particular, I was frustrated with the way to Fletcher. Especially when this pitch was called “all game”. I didn’t pay attention to whether it was a ball or a punch, I’m just more stubborn in the fact that it was a punch for the whole game. “

That was the only hit Snell allowed when he hit 11 in seven innings. It was his third straight start with double-digit strikeouts and his sixth this year.
Snell has turned an inconsistent season with three strong starts. On August 25, he threw a career-high 122 pitches in 7 2/3 innings and received a non-decision in San Diego’s 5-3, 16-inning home loss to rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
Snell was acquired in a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays on December 29th.
Jimmy Herget (2-1) hit two innings for the win. The Padres still held the second NL wildcard place.
Rengifo prevailed against Emilio Pagan, who led the ninth, his third. Adell had an RBI bottom out with one out.
Without DH in NL parks in the interleague game, Shohei Ohtani was not on the Angels’ starting line-up. The two-way star pinch hit in the eighth and sporadically by Tim Hill.
Angels starter Packy Naughton allowed two hits in five innings, struck out five and walked two.

Manager Joe Maddon said the Angels will have a bullpen game in the series finale on Wednesday night. RHP Yu Darvish (7-9, 4.05) should start for the Padres.
