Features of Blackthorn Salt on Mars Caught on Camera
Scientists have long been trying to research space objects around Earth. Even so, until now the research has not found final results.
This is because the fleet is lacking and the research area is wide. Scientists also focus research on several planets around Earth.
Mars is the planet that has characteristics most similar to Earth. The results of several years of research say that Mars can become a second Earth for living things.
Because of that, scientists finally began to explore the planet that looks red. NASA’s Curiosity Rover team arrives with shocking news.
At the end of last February they showed a pretty interesting photo. The photo is the result of observing the surface of Mars.
In the photo you can see an object that resembles a small or tiny flower. There are even some organic features in the image.
They obtained the image using a Mars Hand Lens Imager called MAHLI so that the image can be seen close-up.
NASA rover confirmed that the object is a mineral formation that has a fine structure. The formation is formed by minerals that settle from the water. They later named it Blackthorn Salt.

Curiosity Has Detected The Same Object Before
The discovery of the Blackthorn Salt flower-like feature on Mars isn’t the first time Curiosity has seen it. They previously discovered a similar feature called diagenetic crystal clusters.
Diagenetic itself means recombination or rearrangement of minerals. Thus, the object consists of two groups of three-dimensional crystals and may be made of mineral alloys.
On Twitter, Curiosity’s deputy scientist for the project Abigail Fraeman said the previously visible features were made of sulfate-type salts.
According to the results of previous object studies, such features could be detected on Mars and previously embedded in rock. The stone will then erode over time.
Even so, this group of minerals seems to be more resistant to erosion that occurs.

Another name for Blackthorn Salt is concretion. The Opportunity Rover who saw the object got the nickname blueberry because of its small size and round shape.
You can view 3D object models through images thanks to Curiosity. The image shows a concrete moon alongside the flower-like features of Blackthorn Salt.
The discovery of another feature similar to Blackthorn Salt on Mars was previously in 2013 and earned the nickname cauliflower due to the large bulge. (R10/HR-Online)
