British King Charles has honored the singers of the South Korean group BLACKPINK. The ceremony was part of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s state visit to the United Kingdom.
The members of BLACKPINK have been made honorary members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This order of knighthood has different degrees. These include the titles of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
The K-pop group received the award for its commitment to the COP26 climate summit, which took place in 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. According to the British court, the four members of BLACKPINK “encouraged millions of young people to participate in the UN global conference on climate change and the topic of climate action.”
BLACKPINK was founded in 2016 and is one of the most successful K-pop groups of the moment. The band consists of singers Rosé, Jennie, Jisoo and Lisa. They also attended the state banquet on Tuesday evening.
Earlier on Wednesday, a tribute to the group could be heard at the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. The military band then performed a version of the BLACKPINK song Du-Du Du-Du.
