A major electrical blackout has affected several areas of Spain during the afternoon of this Saturday. Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, Aragon, Navarra, the Basque Country, Castilla y León, Extremadura and Murcia have reported these blackouts, which, as reported by Red Eléctrica Española to the SER, have already been resolved. They have also reported that the power outage was caused by an incident with a seaplane. The breakdown occurred on a “very high voltage 400,000 volt” line, according to the emergency services citing the companies Iberdrola and Endesa.

“An incident with a seaplane has generated a problem in the French very high voltage network causing the temporary disconnection of the peninsula from the rest of Europe. The problem is already solved, the interconnection and the affected electricity supply in our country being replaced,” he said. Red Eléctrica explained in its official Twitter account. The power cuts began at 4:45 p.m. and lasted around 45 minutes

Emergencies in Catalonia have reported that the incident has affected 146,000 subscribers although the blackout has affected 640,000 people, while Murcia has reported that the power supply cut is nationwide and Iberdrola reports a fault in a very high line voltage of 400,000 volts from Red Eléctrica Española. For its part, the 112 of the Community of Madrid has also written on its Twitter account that it is a fault in the interconnection line with France. “Several areas of Spain affected”, they confirm. Cuts in the electricity supply have also been confirmed in Badajoz.

For its part, in the Valencian Community, the electricity supply cut has affected, above all, the south of the province of Alicante. Specifically, to the city of Orihuela and its districts, in addition to nearby towns. The electricity cut has affected 50,000 subscribers. From Emergencies they hope that in the next few hours the service will be fully restored and, in the meantime, they are in coordination with Civil Protection and with the General Directorate of Industry of the Valencian Community.
