The US government has blacklisted 27 companies from China, Japan, Pakistan and Singapore. This should prevent US technology from being used to further develop military technology.
The United States has tightened its sanctions policy against Asian companies: 27 companies from China, Japan, Pakistan and Singapore with links to the military have been blacklisted for trade for reasons of national security and foreign policy, said the US Department of Commerce. Several companies and individuals from China and Pakistan have been added to the list for contributing to Pakistan’s nuclear program, the ministry said.
USA are “on the wrong track”
With the sanctions, the government in Washington wants to prevent US technology from being responsible for the development of Chinese and Russian “military advances and activities,” said Minister of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
The Chinese embassy in Washington then accused the US of using the concept of national security as a hook and abusing state power to restrict Chinese companies by all means. “China firmly rejects this,” said embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu.
The US should rather follow “the spirit” of the virtual meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping last week and “meet China halfway instead of continuing to go the wrong way”.
