Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
BlackBerry stop a number of its main services, including all services for the mobile operating system (OS) in January 2022.
The name BlackBerry had become popular as one of the mobile phones of choice, especially with its exclusive BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) messaging service.
The presence and rapid progress of iPhone and Android devices could not be anticipated by Blackberry which made them unable to compete in the current market.
The company tried to figure out how to get around this by licensing their brand, but it seemed too late, so it’s not surprising that BlackBerry has finally decided to quit the phone section.
In 2017 Blackberry has committed to at least provide service support for Blackberry 10 and at least two years of support also for BlackBerry network access on BBOS devices.
And now Blackberry has finally officially announced that on January 4, 2022, they will be discontinuing major services that support their mobile devices.
Reported from Blackberry official page, they said: “As a reminder, legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1, and earlier, will no longer be available after January 4, 2022.”
“From this date, devices running these legacy services and software over either carrier connections or Wi-Fi will no longer function reliably, including for data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functions,” he added.
However, BlackBerry as a company will not close completely.
The company will continue to operate, and their focus is now on providing intelligent security software and services to companies and governments around the world. Ubergizmo.
“BlackBerry is currently focused on providing intelligent security software and services to companies and governments around the world,” Blackberry wrote on its official website.
