The binational community delivers donations to residents of the Sierra de Chihuahua

Ciudad Juárez (Mexico), December 26 (EFE).- Citizens of the Mexico-US binational community delivered donations to the inhabitants of the Sierra of the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, where most of its inhabitants are indigenous. This, given the meager help of the Mexican authorities. The prop consisted of tons of beans, corn, rice, sweets and toys. Likewise, bicycles have been allowed, as they are used as a means of transport. Warm clothing and footwear were also provided to mitigate the low temperatures. The donations were collected in the American city of El Paso, in the Mexican Ciudad Juárez and neighboring localities. Aid has been delivered to more than 2,000 residents of 20 communities in the Norogachi section of the Guachochi municipality in the southern Mexican state of Chihuahua. The delivery took place at the Rosanachi Table, a point of meditation and blessing for the local Raramuri, because the four cardinal points meet there. During the ceremony, all the participants were fed pozole, while gifts were appreciated during the ceremony. One of the beneficiaries is Javier Holguín, who told EFE that he wants “thank you for this help.” “In this cold weather, it is sometimes very difficult to get access to food and firewood is scarce. There is government support, but they need more qualified personnel to identify who really need help,” she shared. Another person who has received this help is Maribel González, who said that “when it is very cold , you have to fight We have to buy firewood and it is far to find it. They give us a blanket to protect us from the cold. Since the rain comes late or sometimes it doesn’t rain, we struggle with the harvest, the wheat grows poorly and the corn and beans are more expensive”. One of the people who made her donation was Carol Escalera, who explained that for her “this donation is a family tradition. I would tell people to think they don’t need to bring a lot of money, whatever they can bring, a toy, a jacket, they can help others, not just donate.” Another person who joined this help was Angel Rodríguez , from El Paso. “For me, this represents seeing happy children. It makes me feel like a better person to help those in need. The least you can give, food, a toy, can make someone happy,” he said. Of the approximately 12 million indigenous people in Mexico, 69.5% are in a situation of poverty, according to the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policies (Coneval). That is, about 8.34 million people. In addition to this, the original peoples continue to suffer looting, misery and discrimination. (c) EFE Agency
