SAMARINDA.NIAGA.ASIA – For some people, drinking tea has been passed down from generation to generation. However, it’s a good idea to choose tea that is beneficial for health, one of which is black tea.
Black tea, which comes from Camellia sinensis leaves, has long been known for its health benefits. One of them is effective in reducing the risk of diabetes.
These are the results of new research from the University of Adelaide in Australia. The researchers presented this study at this year’s Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Hamburg, Germany.
It is known that black tea is a type of fully oxidized tea that has undergone microbial fermentation. It is called black tea because the leaves oxidize and turn black.
The researchers found that someone who consumed black tea every day had a 53 percent lower risk of prediabetes and a 47 percent lower risk of type 2 diabetes than those who did not consume it.
However, diabetes risk factors such as age, gender, ethnicity and body mass index (BMI) are also taken into account. The data was taken from a cross-sectional study involving 1,923 adult participants.
Of them, 436 had diabetes, 352 had prediabetes, and 1,135 had normal blood glucose levels. These participants included those who did not usually drink tea and who had a history of drinking only one type of tea.
In this study, the researchers examined the relationship between the frequency and type of tea consumption and glucose excretion in urine, insulin resistance, and glycemic status.
From the results of research that has been conducted, drinking black tea can contribute to reducing the risk of diabetes for two reasons. First, black tea improves insulin resistance so that the body is able to control blood sugar better.
Second, black tea contributes to increased excretion of glucose in the urine so that blood sugar has less to control.
Black Tea is Better than Coffee Apart from providing benefits for reducing diabetes, black tea is also believed to reduce drowsiness. Because black tea has the highest caffeine compared to other teas.
