It is with great sadness that I learned today, Friday February 2, of the death of Professor Emeritus Paulin HOUNTONDJI. Sad news for those of us who knew, knew, loved and appreciated him.
Associate professor of philosophy, Paulin Hountondji is internationally recognized in his field. A former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Philosophie, Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Paris-Nanterre, he taught at the universities of Besançon, Kinshasa and Lumumbashi in the DR Congo. And he has taught since 1972 at the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin and a founding member of the Inter-African Philosophy Council (CIAP).
Furthermore, the illustrious deceased whose departure we mourn was a great politician of this country. He successively served as Minister of National Education in the transitional government (1990-1991), then Minister of Culture and Communication (1991-1993).
Then, he was the mission manager of the President of the Republic, a position from which he resigned in October 1994 to resume his teaching. In 2009, he was director of the African Center for Advanced Studies, headquartered in Porto-Novo, Benin.
Paulin Hountondji leaves a great life behind him, both in his biological family which suffers from this loss, and in his religious family, since there too, he left his mark remaining a resolute believer to the end of the Methodist Protestant church. of Benin (EPMB) whose values he has long defended.
Through these few words, I present my most saddened condolences to the family of the illustrious deceased and to Benin in general which loses one of its worthy and valiant sons.
May his soul receive the bliss of the Lord to rest in peace.
