Black Myth: Wukong Shatters Records as Most Played Single-Player Game on Steam with 2.2 Million Players

On launch day, ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ became the most played single-player game ever on the Steam platform. At its peak on launch day, 2.2 million people worldwide were playing the game simultaneously. The real number may be much higher, since figures for the Chinese group Steam, WeGame, and the PlayStation 5 are not yet available.

It is surprising that a Chinese game is breaking records, especially with the strict measures that the Chinese government has introduced in recent years to limit excessive gaming. In 2019, a law was passed banning young children from playing games for more than 90 minutes a day.

Two years later, the rule was further tightened: from then on, minors can only play on Fridays, weekends and public holidays, and then only once a day. The development of new games was also limited that year.
