Black Monday for Unicredit, blocked current accounts and banked ATMs

Bad start to the week for i customers of Unicredit. And the second Italian bank after Intesa Sanpaolo and among the main ones at European level, with 25 million customers throughout Europe. However, this does not keep it safe from possible disservices and problems.

Problems for Unicredit, what happened

From 9 to 12 today, Monday 14 September, several services offered by the bank were completely unattainable. The group’s computer systems have been the victim of generalized anomalies which have prevented users from accessing their online checking accounts via home banking, carrying out transactions and even paying or withdrawing cash at an ATM or paying by card.

The inefficiencies began today morning shortly after 9. Among the problems reported by Unicredit customers there were above all the inability to access accounts both from PC and smartphone via app, and to make payments both online and even in shops with ATMs and cards. The problems affected the entire national territory.

Scrolling through the comments of Unicredit customers on social networks, it is understood that access to their personal account on the site was blocked by an unspecified “technical error” or by a message that read: “An unexpected error has occurred”. All this even while many users tried, in vain, to pay through the ATM in commercial establishments, being refused the transaction.

Services returned to normal

Days in which there are also many accesses to the site to know the offers dedicated to the superbonus. Unicredit has admitted the presence of “generalized anomalies and slowdowns in the access phase” to the IT systems, ensuring that it is at work “with the highest priority” on their restoration.

Despite not having provided further explanations, and after the inconvenience caused to thousands of customers throughout Italy, shortly after 12 the services returned to normal. In a note released by the group it was specified that “UniCredit systems are restored and back in operation”, with an apology to customers for the malfunction due to “technical reasons”.
