(CNN) — The Black Lives Matter mural in front of the Tower Trump in downtown Manhattan he has been vandalized three times in a week, according to the New York Police Department.
“It is absolutely unacceptable that a mural to commemorate the Black Lives Matter movement was vandalized, and we will absolutely fix it,” said Julia Arredondo, spokeswoman for Mayor Bill de Blasio, in an email.
The most recent incident occurred Saturday afternoon when two Staten Island women, 39 and 29, were arrested after they were seen pouring paint on the mural, the department reported.
When an officer tried to approach one of the women, he slipped and injured his head and arm. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is in stable condition, according to New York Police.
The two women were charged with criminal mischief for the damages and were released with fines to appear at the desk, New York police said.
He mural was sabotaged for the first time Monday when an unidentified suspect threw red paint on the V in “Lives.” The department said it investigates vandalism.
On Friday the video Surveillance caught three people “pouring and smearing paint on the mural and a woman spreading flyers on the scene,” according to New York police.
When the police arrived, they arrested four people who had blue paint on their hands and clothes.
Two women, ages 25 and 39, and a 44-year-old man, all from New York City, were charged with criminal conduct and released.
A 64-year-old woman received a subpoena for illegally posting brochures, according to police. Police did not reveal what was on the wheel.
He New York City mural, similar to that commissioned by Washington, DC, by Mayor Muriel Bowser, was painted on Fifth Avenue in front of the Tower Trump earlier this month. The building houses the headquarters of the Trump Organization.
President Donald Trump called the words “Black Lives Matter” a “hate symbol”And harshly criticized De Blasio for“ denigrating ”the area in front of the Trump Tower.
The mayor responded by saying that the city was “liberating” and “elevating Fifth Avenue” by painting the mural.
