In the talent show Britain’s Got Talent, the famous British dance group Diversity staged an act that deals with colonialism, the corona crisis and then ends with Black Lives Matter. And the latter chased the viewers who have difficulty denouncing racism in the curtains. Media regulator Ofcom received last week more than 15,000 complaints. The act includes a scene that shows how an American white police officer cuts off a black man’s breath, a reference to the killing of George Floyd. The music for the act is Black Lives Matter by Dax, which includes his exclamation “I can’t breathe”.
The complaints are, according to the group, a typical case of It can be shown, after all, the aim was to show that racism is still denied or tolerated. Diversity was also overloaded with statements of support from viewers who greatly appreciated that the artists took such a clear stand.
