The E-Commerce Association has estimated that people will spend around seven billion kronor on Black Friday, just like last year, in e-shops alone. Although most people’s financial situation has worsened, for many it is all the more attractive to be able to buy Christmas gifts a little cheaper and in advance.
Two-thirds of Internet users want to use Black Friday and other discount events to buy at least some gifts, said Jan Vetyška, executive director of the E-Commerce Association.
Some lie
The amount of real discounts in online stores so far is mostly between 10 and 15 percent, about the same as last year. However, some merchants advertise discounts of up to four times that, according to data from the Shop Watcher project.
However, people must be careful not to get burned while shopping. Advertised discounts often actually provide no real savings or only provide absolutely minimal savings. The new legislation is expected to put an end to that, but is due to come into force just before Christmas.

“There are still e-shops looking for niches. One of them is, for example, not declaring the discount amount and just putting the product in the Black Friday category, which is an unfair practice,” Jakub Balada pointed out for Shop Watch. He added that in some cases the product may even be overpriced. In the largest serious e-shops, however, the discount given is close to the real one.
According to the store observer, for example, in Alza the average discount declared is 19% and the real one is 18%, in Datart it is 16% against 12% and in CZC the average and declared discount are the same at 14%. .
In Datart stores, events under the name of Black Friday are held throughout November. “Almost four thousand products are included in the discount event. The greatest interest is for mobile phones, headphones, smartwatches, tablets, products from the body and hair care category, but also small household appliances – coffee machines, food processors ‘, Datart spokeswoman Olga Dolínková told Pravá.
What to watch out for on Black Friday |

Discounts of 80% sound incredible, but sellers also have to live on something and make money on something. It is ideal to compare the prices of popular products long before Black Friday, so that you can assess the value of the “before” and “after” price tag. |
Some vendors tend to jack up the price of products just before the event so they can offer big discounts afterward. |
At the very least, it is a misleading practice to relate the discount to the suggested retail price. This is because it is determined when the product enters the market and its price may have fallen by tens of percentage points since then. |
The unobtrusive word “up to” is the draw. The fact that you can expect discounts “up to 80%!” it just means that there is at least one product with this discount. For others, the discounts can be orders of magnitude smaller. |

For traders, the end of the year is always the peak of the season. “We also offer discounts on current seasonal items, such as nightwear, it’s not just a sale of previous collections. As part of Black Friday, we have SEK 100 million worth of goods on sale,” informed the purchasing director by Astratex Lukáš Barcal.
Discounts of 20 to 40 percent are offered by the perfume seller Notino or also by the Freeport Fashion Outlet, which is located on the Austrian border in Haty near Znojmo.
“Czech customers are very price sensitive. Popular brands such as Nike or Puma will reduce their entire assortment by an additional 30 percent, Mustang and Levi’s by 25 percent and, for example, Adidas or Tommy Hilfiger by 20 percent will be affected dozens of our other stores as well.” says Lenka Čapková, director of the Fashion Arena Prague outlet center.
According to a survey for the Acomware agency and the Zásilkovna shipping company, 42% of people are tempted by discounts to make spontaneous purchases. At the same time, women are more likely to buy impulsively, and people between the ages of 25 and 34 can’t resist most discounts. High-income families or, conversely, low-income families more often make unplanned purchases on the Internet.
Zboží.cz: Tablets are the ones that have lost the most
Price comparator Zboží.cz confirms that the popularity of Black Friday in the Czech Republic is increasing year by year and many customers use this period to make long-delayed purchases.
In his measurement of median price developments, the most significant discount occurred in tablets this year. Their average (median) price in mid-October rose from CZK 18 thousand to 21 thousand in a few days, and then dropped to CZK 15 thousand at the end of October. It remained there until 11 November, when it fell another thousand crowns lower.
“Surprisingly enough, there has not yet been a significant drop in the prices of mobile phones. Be careful when buying washing machines, for which there has also been an increase in the average price. Therefore, always compare the prices of competing offers before buying. buy a specific model,” advises the comparator.
Data from Zboží.cz shows that virtually all electronics became more expensive in late October, only to be subsequently discounted by retailers.
