The biggest shopping event of the year takes place on November 24th. Black Friday is also an important sales driver for Amazon, but in the USA stationary chains are still ahead. To counteract this, Amazon wants to rely on shoppable ads on a large scale that day and primarily target football fans: During the game between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets, Amazon will regularly advertise for Black in the Prime Video app -Show Friday offers on the Amazon marketplace, as reported by Golem.

All offers are provided with a QR code so that viewers can access the marketplace directly from their couch using their smartphone. These should primarily be exclusive offers that should not be available in other ways. At the action are laut Awful Announcing including TCL, Dyson, Lego and Nintendo.

Black-Friday-Game als neue Tradition?

Amazon has been broadcasting NFL games since 2017, and since 2021 the company has had an exclusive contract with the league that is valid for eleven years and for which Amazon is expected to pay around one billion dollars per year. The game on Black Friday will be broadcast on that day this year at Amazon’s request and, if Amazon and the National Football League have their way, should become an annual tradition, similar to the games on Thanksgiving, for example. Unlike these games, the teams involved in the Black Friday Game should rotate every season.

Not only Amazon expects advertising revenue from the cooperation, the NFL also wants to benefit from it. With Amazon you can appeal to a younger target group and market the football league beyond the Super Bowl.

It remains to be seen whether the plan to sell products on Amazon during the game on Friday will actually work. There is a great fear that viewers will feel disturbed by the constant advertisements. However, this problem is likely to be particularly noticeable among older people and outside the USA. Football is a major marketing machine in the USA, advertising space during the many breaks in the game costs companies millions – and not just at the Super Bowl. American viewers are used to the constant advertising. It’s not just in Germany that many viewers feel rather annoyed by this.
