Black Friday 2023 was the third largest Black Friday for video games in the UK. According to data from GfK (via GamesIndustry.biz) over £167 million worth of consoles, accessories and physical games were sold during Black Friday week in the UK.
Revenue in the physical video game market increased by 22% compared to last year, and 47% of this revenue came from console sales. It was the second biggest week for the PS5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S since the consoles hit the market.
VR was also in the spotlight, and it was peripherals that drove accessory sales. VR headsets were joined by controllers and gaming headsets at the top of accessory sales.
Considering that the years that beat Black Friday 2023 were 2013 and 2020, when new consoles had just been launched, this is an impressive feat. It shows that 2023 is a strong candidate to be one of the best gaming years of all time.
