Text messages containing references to slavery that were sent to black men and women caused national concern and led to an investigation by the FBI and other US agencies.

Following Donald Trump’s victory in the US election, several black men and women, including students and even schoolchildren, received racist text messages with references to slavery.
The messages, sent anonymously, were reported in several states, including New York, Alabama, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
It is not yet known who sent the messages, and there is no complete list of the places from which they were sent.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed that it was notified of such reports.
“The FBI is aware of offensive and racist text messages being sent to individuals across the country,” the FBI said in a statement.
The FBI indicated that it is in contact with the Department of Justice regarding this case. An investigation is underway.
