As part of the promotion of the Daikatana game at the time, the publisher Eidos wanted to take advantage of its popularity, so they came up with what is probably the strangest advertisement in the history of the entire game industry. Various media outlets paid for a full-page ad with the caption John Romero’s About To Make You His Bitch, without any information about him.

The big rant, for which the famous programmer later apologized, did not help. Daikatana finished as the absolute first, and the reputation of being unconditionally loved by the stars suffered beyond the cracks.

Romero, who last released a solid, but no less exceptional strategy, Empire of Sin (nae review), announced that he was preparing a new game. And not just any. He was going to turn to the genre that made him most famous, that is, to shooting from his own point of view (FPS). It’s not a stupid county day, but a whole new sign.
