After the first half of the season, SC Phönix Essen are still without a win in the Niederrhein 7 district league. They still believe in relegation, but also plan for a possible relegation.
Not a single victory was achieved by the district division SC Phoenix food in the first half of the season. With only four points after 14 games you are at the bottom of the table. Relegation is not impossible, but it will be difficult. Sports director Arndt Krosch knows the main reason for the weak Hinserie.
Bad luck with injuries
The large number of injuries in particular has made it difficult for Phönix Essen to gain a foothold in the league. “We had a lot of injured players throughout the first half of the season. That went through to the end. The team was never able to settle in properly, we had a different line-up every weekend. That of course makes it very difficult to find a rhythm, ”says Krosch, complaining about the Essenes’ misery with injuries. The fact that some of his players work in shifts “doesn’t make the situation any easier,” he adds.
Transfers planned – a new addition already fixed
That is also a reason why the club wants to add personnel in the winter. “We will definitely get one or two newcomers in the winter transfer market, probably three. One player is already fixed, a very experienced central defender comes to stabilize our defense, ”said Krosch, happy about the first new signing in winter. “We are also in good talks with another player for midfield, but that is not yet ready for a decision. We also want to sign a new striker,” explains the sports director.
Long winter break for Phoenix
With a view to the upcoming winter break, the timetable is already in place. Training will start on January 9th. “Since we won’t be back in the second half of March on the third matchday, it will be a long winter break for us. That is why we have already planned six test games so that we can find the rhythm of the game early enough, ”says Krosch, explaining the plans.
At Phönix Essen they still believe that they will stay in the league, even if it will be difficult. “I’m not talking about relegation yet, there are still too many games for that. Nevertheless, we are realistic enough and want to prepare for all scenarios. For this reason, our plans are twofold, including for a possible relegation, ”he concludes with an assessment of the situation.
