BKKBN strengthens youth resilience against AIDS and malaria

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) stated that it will continue to strengthen youth resilience in dealing with AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (ATM) in North Maluku.

“Data on the number of new cases of People with HIV-AIDS (ODHA) in North Maluku in 2022 will reach 389 cases,” said Head of the BKKBN Youth Family Development Team Representative for North Maluku Maurend J. Lesar in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

Maurend said that out of 10 regencies/cities in North Maluku, Ternate City had the highest number of new PLWHA cases with 121 cases, followed by North Halmahera Regency with 93 cases.

There are negative impacts that can affect the quality of the younger generation, BKKBN then takes on the role of preparing youth resilience through Family Life Preparation for Adolescents (PKBR) and Reproductive Health (Kespro).

One of the methods taken by the BKKBN is to promote the community movement for healthy living as coaching material and target the risk behavior of using drugs to become Zero Drugs.

He stated that the promotion of the Community Movement for healthy living was intensified as education for the public. In addition, BKKBN also promotes a campaign to improve the quality of life for adolescents with the theme “5 Transitions of Youth Life” as a point in implementing a clean and healthy life.

“With this support, it is hoped that BKKBN’s support in eliminating ATMs, especially in North Maluku, will be achieved,” said Maurend.

Chairman of the Indonesia Planning Generation Forum (GenRe) for North Maluku Province Muhammad Rizal added that as an age group that is vulnerable to the three diseases, the integrity of stakeholders in tackling ATM is very important to help strengthen youth’s resilience to the disease.

“Integration is needed which includes cooperation between various sectors, such as the health, education and social sectors to ensure that ATM countermeasures are truly effective and integrated. This also ensures that youth have easier and faster access to the information and services they need,” said Rizal.
