BK Häcken Beats Elfsborg in Allsvenskan Opener

Häcken defeated Elfsborg

BORÅS/STOCKHOLM. The reigning champion continues to impress.

Häcken took a heavy victory against Elfsborg at Borås’ arena.

– As a whole, it’s a solid away game, says coach Per-Mathias Högmo.

It was a long time ago (Djurgården, 2003) that a team other than Malmö FF managed to defend a SM gold, but BK Häcken has had a promising start to their attempt.

Häcken defeated Elfsborg away from home in their Allsvenskan premiere.

The substitute goalscorer

After 20 minutes of play Ibrahim Sadiq headed in the lead and in the second half Amane Romeo added.

Romeo replaced the injured key player Simon Gustafson from the start and thanked the trust by placing 0-2 on a counterattack with 20 minutes left in the match.

– We created a goal chance in the first attack, we are stable right through, says Häcken’s coach Per-Mathias Högmo.

– I think maybe we should have been better in some attacks where we could have scored, but overall it’s a solid away game.

Heavy injury for Elfsborg

Something that made Elfsborg’s evening extra difficult was that Michael Baidoo was forced to leave the match in the first half. The 23-year-old midfield star had his thigh bandaged and was replaced.

– I don’t know, but I suspect the back of the thigh, says coach Jimmy Thelin about the injury after the match.

Thelin praises Häcken’s game.

– It is a very skilled opponent, it takes that little bit extra to be able to win. We have to take our chances and not allow them to get theirs. Game-wise, it’s difficult to get at them, Häcken is a bit sharper, says Thelin.

Next up is a home match against Hammarby for Häcken and Elfsborg travel south-west to face Varberg.

Ibrahim Sadiq celebrates after his 0-1 goal.
