Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav met with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss a potential opposition alliance ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, BJP leaders dismissed the possibility of such an alliance and cited previous failures in 2014 and 2019 elections. Amit Malviya, a member of the BJP, took a jab at Nitish Kumar, wondering how many people he has bowed in front of. Similarly, Khushbu Sundar called the group a “futile bunch” and Anurag Thakur referred to them as a “thugbandhan” of corrupt parties. The opposition is united in demanding a JPC in the Adani issue and against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha. Mallikarjun Kharge announced a coming alliance in the next Lok Sabha election and assembly elections after the crucial meeting. Rahul Gandhi also declared that the meeting was historic and the parties would fight collectively against the BJP. Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav later met with Arvind Kejriwal and discussed bringing all parties together. Nitish Kumar initially set the ball rolling on a united opposition dismissing his personal ambition to become the PM face of the opposition, while 19 parties came on board with the Congress in the Budger session of Parliament supporting the demand for a joint parliamentary committee probe into the Adani case.
