Bijapur. On Friday, suspected Naxalites killed a leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Naxal-affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Police officials gave this information. Police officials said that suspected Naxalites have murdered Janpad Panchayat member Tirupati Katla with a sharp weapon. Officials said the incident occurred around 8 pm in Toynar village when Katla had gone to attend a wedding.
He told that according to preliminary information, when Katla came out of the function, Naxalites attacked him with a sharp weapon, due to which he was seriously injured. Police officials said that after the incident, he was taken to Bijapur District Hospital where he died during treatment. He told that the matter is being investigated. This is the seventh murder of a BJP leader by Naxalites in the Naxal-affected areas of the state in the last one year.

7 BJP leaders murdered in one year
Before the assembly elections in November last year, BJP’s Narayanpur district unit vice-president Ratan Dubey was murdered with a sharp weapon in a market in Jharaghati police station area of the district. Dubey was then campaigning for elections. On October 20 last year, BJP worker Birju Taram was shot dead by suspected Maoists in Sarkheda village of Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district.
BJP has demanded investigation
In June, a local BJP leader was killed by suspected Naxalites in Bijapur district. Last year in February, three BJP leaders were murdered in similar incidents at different places in Bastar division. The BJP, which was in opposition during the previous Congress government, had termed these killings as ‘targeted’ killings and demanded a high-level investigation.
