New Delhi – BJP has released the list of candidates for the second phase of the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. The list consists of 39 people including three Union Ministers. The list of candidates was released within hours of Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing a rally of BJP workers in Bhopal. Meanwhile, there is no indication of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s candidature yet. Apart from the Union Ministers, three MPs from the BJP also made it to the list. The MPs included in the candidate list are Uday Pradap Singh, Riti Pathak and Ganesh Singh.
Elections to the 230-member Assembly of Madhya Pradesh will be held by the end of this year. In the 2018 elections, Congress won 114 seats while BJP won 109 seats. Congress formed the cabinet under the leadership of Kamal Nath with the support of independent MLAs.
But later there was a rift within the party and in March 2020 a section led by Jyotiraditya Scindia defected to the BJP. With this, the Congress lost its rule in the state. The BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan came to power.
