Many are hoping for Graham Potter as the new Swedish national team captain.

The star coach’s right-hand man Björn Hamberg is happy to continue the collaboration with the star coach – in the national team.

– It would obviously be a dream, says Hamberg P4 Jamtland.

Björn Hamberg has been assistant coach to Graham Potter in Östersund, Swansea, Brighton and most recently in Chelsea.

Now both are out of contract.

– We keep in touch and had lunch a couple of days ago. It’s a special seat. I’ve gone from seeing the coaching staff more than I see the family, to not having a job to go to. It’s extreme worlds you’ve shifted between when you had to leave Chelsea, says Björn Hamberg OPEN.

He would like to see a continuation together with the Englishman.

– I would very much like to continue working together. That’s the idea.

“Reasonable – he should be mentioned”

The time at Chelsea was short but intense. Hamberg says that seven months almost felt like five years. He dreams of continued work at the highest level. The fact that Graham Potter is mentioned as a dream name for the post of Swedish national team captain after the departing Janne Andersson has not escaped Hamberg.

– I think it is reasonable, what he has done for Swedish football is difficult to compare with anyone else. I think of course that his name should be mentioned, then I have no idea how concrete it is. There are many other talented coaches who are also mentioned, says Hamberg P4 Jamtland.

Dreaming of the national team

He himself is open to a job in Blågult.

– Of course you would be keen to work for the Swedish national team. Everyone has had a dream to play there and it would of course be a dream to represent Sweden, says Hamberg to P4.

Graham Potter, 48, and Björn Hamberg, 38, led Östersunds FK from football’s backyard to the Allsvenskan and playoffs in the Europa League. The duo left for England in 2018.
