Confident and full of energy, Björn Casapietra says: “I am in the shape of my life.” The 54-year-old singer from Berlin wants to pass on this positive feeling to his audience at his “Love Christmas Songs” concerts. “We are in a shitty time, a pre-war time. Before that we had the corona pandemic. Not to forget the refugee discussions that have continued to this day.” Many people would simply ignore it, says Casapietra. But he wants to give light and warmth to the dark and cold winter time.
The fact that the singer shows himself with such determination and zeal was not always the case. “I used to look good and be known on TV. But I was also insecure and less confident,” says Casapietra. He worked on himself and his appearance in front of people for a long time – with success. The Berlin singer has now found his inner center and, according to his own statements, presents himself on stage in a relaxed and humorous way.
“My concerts are not bone dry. A bit of irony and my Berlin snout are always there,” he says. But which songs do his “Love Christmas Songs” contain?
Björn Casapietra live in Brandenburg – what songs does he sing?
As the name suggests, it’s about Christmas carols. But not only, as Casapietra says, “I generally sing songs that are more associated with the winter time.” These include: “Ave Maria” by Schubert, “Daughter Zion” and “Hallelujah”.
But the singer doesn’t just limit himself to German music. French and Italian-language hits as well as Celtic and American songs are on board. “My program is a trip around the world,” says Casapietra. This year in the repertoire: “Sound of Silence.” But his personal highlight is the GDR Advent song “Maria went through a thorn forest.”
“Believe it or not. But when I sing the song, the audience turns on their lights and the temperature in the room rises by five degrees,” says the singer. Casapietra is grateful for such experiences. For him, singing is a purpose in life “that goes down to the ends of his hair.”
